Home Groups

The St.Anne's Friendship group meets at 1.30pm on the last Tuesday of the month. We enjoy friendship and fellowship with outings for afternoon tea.

We welcome new members - for details contact Colleen Cook or June Porter.

The Anabasis house group meets twice monthly at the home of Jennifer Thompson.

For details contact Catherine Axcell.

The Thursday evening home group has been meeting for nearly twenty five years. Only some of the original members are still around, but in total we have twelve members now. We have used a variety of study material over the years but in recent times have concentrated on studying the readings set down for the following Sunday. A series of questions posed by the leader gives rise to wide ranging discussions and encourages us to think more about our mission and beliefs. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of most months and new members are welcome.

Contact the Parish office for details of venue.

Selwyn Centre

Following the earthquakes the Selwyn Foundation in Auckland provided funding for four groups to be set up in badly affected areas of Christchurch. Archdeacon Anne Russel-Brighty undertook a major study of what was available and which areas in the city needed support to offer social activities to the vulnerable elderly of the community. After discussion with the Vicar and Vestry, Opawa was selected as one of the groups.

This is not a casual coffee group, but one that offers on-going support to guests. This parish is committed to providing a safe and warm environment for the Selwyn Centre to meet in. Our morning consists of an exercise programme from the Arthritis Society a healthy morning tea provided by the volunteers, games, discussions, quizzes and fun and laughter, as well as some special themed mornings.

We welcome enquiries from people who may be interested in being a driver to bring a guest to and from St Mark's on Monday morning, or you may like to join the volunteers roster if you feel called to this ministry. Please speak to Deacon Anne for details.
